Ken joined the team at Holby A&E at the beginning of series 8, when the post of Clinical Nurse Specialist was created. He earned jealousy from Ash who had also applied for the post.
Ken became good friends with Charlie Fairhead. Although Charlie knew Ken was gay, it took him a while to realise that Ken fancied him, even loved him. Charlie had to turn Ken down, and when he had to tell Ken that the post had been abolished, Ken took it personally. He left straight away, saying he had another job to go to. However, Charlie later phoned him and found out that he hadn't.
